‘That we may have Light’

‘That we may have Light’

Ether 2:19, 2:22-25, 3:1-6, 6:2-5

What was your last problem? Did you solve it?

After eight barges were built and stoppers were put in the tops and bottoms so air could get in, the brother of Jared still had a problem. The brother of Jared prayed, ’. . . O Lord, in (the barges) there is no light; (how) shall we steer? ‘O Lord, wilt thou suffer that we shall cross this great water in darkness?(Ether 2:19, Ether 3:4)

Well, this time, the Lord answered the brother of Jared’s prayer by asking him a question. ‘What will ye that I should do that ye may have light in your vessels?’ (Ether 3:23,25)

The question helped the brother of Jared think of answers himself!

So, he got an idea and ‘ . . went forth unto the mount, which they called the mount Shelem, because of its exceeding height, and did molten out of a rock sixteen small stones; and they were white and clear, even as transparent glass;’ (Ether 3:1)

Then, the brother of Jared asked the Lord to ‘touch these stones, O Lord, with thy finger, and prepare them that they may shine forth in darkness; and they shall shine forth unto us in the vessels which we have prepared, that we may have light while we shall cross the sea.’ (Ether 3:4)

‘The Lord stretched forth his hand and touched the stones one by one with his finger.’ (Ether 3:6) The brother of Jared put two stones in each barge, one in each end, ‘and behold, they did give light unto the vessels.’ (Ether 6:2-3)

When I have problems or questions, I can ask the Lord for help. He has power and wants to help me when I do my part. (Ether 6:5)
