‘Tight like unto a dish’
Have you counted how long you can hold your breath under water?
The Lord told the brother of Jared to build barges that would carry their families, friends and supplies to the land of promise.
A barge is not a large ship or a small canoe. It’s in-between.
It’s job in the water is to carry goods or people in the easiest way.
The Lord told the Jaredites to build eight barges that were not heavy.
The barges were to be ‘exceedingly tight . . like unto a dish.’
The bottom of the barges were to be ‘tight like unto a dish.’
The sides of the barges were to be ‘tight like unto a dish.’
The ends of the barges were to be ‘peaked,’ which means pointed.
The tops of the barges were to be ‘tight like unto a dish.’
The length of each barge was to be as long as a tree.
The door was to be ‘tight like unto a dish’ when it was shut.
Why do you think the Lord reminded the Jaredites five times to build parts of the barges to be ‘tight like unto a dish?’
You guessed it!
It has something to do with holding your breath under water.
Do you need to be reminded of things to do or not to do sometimes before it finally ‘sinks in?’ I do!!
P.S. I can imagine the Jaredite barges to be in the shape of a Tootsie Roll.
