1 Nephi 3:1-4
When Lehi took his family into the wilderness, they left their home, their land, their gold, silver and precious things behind in Jerusalem. (1 Nephi 2:11)
When they got to the wilderness, the Lord commanded Lehi to send his sons back to Jerusalem to get the plates of brass.
The plates of brass had stories and the genealogy of Lehi’s forefathers written on them from many generations before Lehi was born.
The names and stories of people who lived before were more important to Lehi and his family than their home in Jerusalem, their friends, their gold, silver and precious things all put together!
How can words last longer and matter more than things?

*In Lehi’s time, the people saved words by carving them onto ‘pages’ made of metal.
